New Haven Sister Cities-Tetlanohcan Sister Cities Project

Since 20 years ago, New Haven has been the destination of thousand of new immigrants from all parts of the world. A large percentage of these immigrants come from Tlaxcala, Mexico. And more specifically, 800 immigrants living in New Haven and its surrounding towns are originally from a small village called San Francisco Tetlanohcan. One of the main goals of this Sister City Project is to raise awareness about the economic and political realities of Mexico, organizing the residents of New Haven to support policies that value people, communities, and the environment more than profits.

The principal purpose of the New Haven/Tetlanohcan Sister Cities Project is to educate about how local economic and political realities can be framed as global justice issues.Through a global justice perspective, New Haven and Tetlanohcan work together to promote fair international policies that protect working communities at home and abroad.
